Radio Martiko. Μεγάλοι φαν της Tropical και Oriental μουσικής, οι Βέλγοι Dj, συλλέκτες βινυλίων και υπεύθυνοι για την ομώνυμη δισκογραφική εταιρία, έχουν γίνει γνωστοί στο ευρύτερο κοινό για τη μεγάλη γκάμα τους σε vintage χορευτικούς ρυθμούς. Ο μοναδικός τους ήχος ξεφεύγει από τα όρια των clubs της Γάνδης και εκτείνεται σε μέρη μακρινά και σε λαούς που δημιούργησαν αυτή τη μουσική που τόσο αγαπούν.
-Οι προσευχές των συλλεκτών βινυλίων παγκοσμίως εισακούστηκαν και οι Radio Martiko όχι μόνο επανακυκλοφόρησαν το πρώτο άλμπουμ του Abdou El Omari, αλλά κατάφεραν να αποκτήσουν πρόσβαση και σε άλλα 2 project του ίδιου του καλλιτέχνη τα οποία είναι άγνωστα μέχρι στιγμής στο κοινό του.
Με αφορμή το επερχόμενου showcase στο Underflow record store & art gallery την Πέμπτη 16 Μαρτίου, οι Radio Martiko μάς αποκαλύπτουν τους αγαπημένους τους δίσκους.
1. Amara Touré: Superb Afro-Latin sounds from Senegal. The first Amara Touré song I ever heard was ‘Lamento Cubano’ from a friend who found it in Nouakchott, Mauritania, while he was heading to Gambia and Senegal with his van. This album is completely in the same vein of bewitching afro-manding sounds deeply rooted in the Cuban Son tradition. We picked up this album recently at a record fair in Paris. Fave track on this album: “Afalogo”.
2. Quirino Do Canto – Cabo Verde Poema Tropical
Very hard to find and holy grale of Cabo Verdian Modern Funana sounds. I don’t know much about this artist, except that he made this fantastic, incomparable Funana track ‘Minó Di Mamã’ (compiled on the notarious Analog Africa double album from lst year. ‘Space Echo – The Mystery behind the Cosmic Sound of Cabo Verde finally revealed). I heard from an American guy that Quirino Do Canto lives in the US and still plays. He probably got a few copies of this record (including mine) from the man himself but I’m not sure of that.
3. Eleftheria Christopoulou – To Megalo S’Agapo:
The latest album we found by this talented Greek Romani Singer. One of her rarest and best lp’s. A must have for any psych oriental music lover. About 3 years ago I found her first album ‘To Melanouri’ in Monastiraki flea market and I fell in love immediately after playing it and hearing her voice. The arabesk sound and electric guitar and farfisa driven rhythms totally estonished me and reminded me of Baligh Hamdy and Egyptian/Lebanese 70’s orchestra sound. These kind of albums persuaded us to explore more into Greek music and finally brought us to Radio Matiko’s re-issue and compilation projects we are recently working on. So besides the Acropolis, excellent food and beautiful women we find out that Greece has an inexhaustible source of incredible music.
